Shanghai Expo will firmly insist on the concept of sustainable development on energy conservation, consumption reduction, and emission reduction as well as pollution prevention. In the forum of building energy conservation and green eco-building development, Shanghai Expo deputy director general Huang Jian zhi revealed that Shanghai Expo intends to design and build a practical ecological residential building in the park of Puxi ( West area of Huangpu River), which reflects the technological development level of intellectualized eco-buildings in the future 20 years, and will fill in the blank of full intelligent eco-buildings as a pilot project of Shanghai Expo green and energy conservation buildings. It is known that this project is located in the best practical area of the city, covers a building area of around 3000 square meters, and will reflect the concept of environmental protection from construction to application.
For access to the eco-building in advance, Huang Jian zhi revealed, this residence integrated various ecological and energy saving technology, with self-adjusting space enclosing structure, environmental-friendly energy consumption system, and distributed energy supply system included in its technical subsidiary system, it can also be applied in building, rain and sewage comprehensive utilization as well as intelligent control etc. During the Expo, this building model can be displayed to make the visitors feel at real circumstance. Shanghai Building Scientific Research institution indicated that this future green building exhibition item may represent the intelligent green buildings technological development level in around 2030, thereby can guide people to feel in advance the urban living mode in tens of years.
The planning and design of this project will be considered from three aspects: suitable for Presenting future residential situation from multi-angle; convenient for fully displaying the advanced green building technology; able to guide and evacuate large numbers of visitors in time.
To make a full use of green building materials, it is known that, Expo buildings are mainly temporary ones, the non-reusable materials as concrete and brick etc are seldom used. The high energy-consumption materials like steel, glass etc, due to its recycling feature as well as convenience for remaking and assembling, will be widely used in buildings for Expo exhibition hall after treated with energy saving technology. Viewing from recent years Expo, timber wins more and more love from designers for its non-pollution, low energy consumption, easiness to processing, recycling and reproducible characteristics. From Barcelona to Aichi Expo, the timber, reproducible paper, bamboo etc have become main building materials in succession, and even the timber was used in every corner of Aichi World Expo.
Huang Jian zi said that China is an county lack of forest resources, Shanghai World Expo won’t use as much timber as that of Aichi Expo, but will try various green renewable building materials which is low in energy consumption with no pollution, based on the principle of “3R”( reduce, reuse, recycle) in the application process.
Huang Jian zhi revealed in the theme of energy conservation and environmental protection that the Shanghai World Expo will highlight more clearly the theme of energy saving and environmental protection in natural ventilation and lighting. As the exhibition hall is deep into the great architectural space, the artificial lighting and mechanical ventilation consume a large amount of energy and the heat brought about will increase the burden of the air-conditioner, thus it brings visitors much discomfort. Shanghai World Expo will focus on building natural ventilation and lighting in the design. The Hanover's experience shows that, ingenious and reasonable design in ventilation allows building investment in the Central Control (air conditioning) to save by 50%.
In the thermal insulation and energy saving, Shanghai World Expo put high emphasis on the energy conservation of the main body of buildings and the improvement on the heat preservation and insulation performance of the exterior protected construction to reduce energy loss. Specific measures include insulation glass, double-glazing, insulation hollow metal plates, and other more traditional approaches. At the same time, Shanghai is also preparing to explore some innovative approaches. Such as the external walls of insulated water curtain double-insulated external vine plants and external mobile awnings etc.
In the comprehensive utilization of energy, Huang Jian zhi said the World Expo park also plans to use ice storage air-conditioner, sub-regional centralized cold station and solar photovoltaic power generation technology. For example, in the central project of public activities, about 2 megawatts of solar photovoltaic independent system, which could directly convert solar energy to electricity, will be installed in the roof of the house.
