Shading on a global stage with TESS 140
2008-6-24

Guthrie Douglas talks to Blinds & Shutters about the success of its TESS 140 internal tensioned shading system

The TESS 140 internal tensioned shading system from Guthrie Douglas has attracted a tremendous amount of demand from architects and installers worldwide.

Since its introduction three years ago it has become the company’s number one selling solar shading product – for projects from Sweden to South America, not to mention numerous new developments and renovations across the UK. It is suitable for skylights, vertical and sloping glazing up to 18m2.

The success of this product stems from several factors. From an aesthetic point of view it looks good – a pair of neat and unobtrusive (but strong) stainless steel wire guides at each side of the system blend in seamlessly with glazed atria and windows. It is also very flexible: the guides ensure the mechanism runs smoothly for systems up to 6.5 metres in draw in any plane or direction (including bottom up) without the need for intermediate support.

The product is extremely reliable – having been tested extensively in the factory for many thousands of cycles, Guthrie Douglas are confident in its ability to withstand many years of use in the built environment

The TESS 140 also has the option of a radio motor, which can be used with SIMU 1 and 5 channel handsets (also available from the company’s sales department) to set and reprogramme the system limits and intermediate stopping position directly from the handset.

The TESS range makes an important contribution to addressing the issue of sustainability. With 40 per cent of EU primary energy going into buildings, solar shading can make savings of 10-30 per cent on energy consumption here, helping the company reach targets set by the EU and Kyoto.

If you would like a visit with a demonstration sample of the TESS 140 please contact Guthrie Douglas. The company also run commercial and technical training courses in Warwick.
